The 2006 Vacqueyras La Cantarelle is made from some of the estate’s oldest vines and smallest yields. Again, 100% stems are utilized, the wine is aged in concrete tanks, and there is no fining or filtration. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, it reveals a sensational character, and is one of the vintage’s most outstanding efforts. It boasts a deep ruby/purple hue along with notes of creosote, black cherries, blackberries, smoked meat, and roasted herbs. Full-bodied, fleshy, and succulent, it is an anomaly in the 2006 vintage for its richness, depth, and fullness. Enjoy it over the next 5-7 years. Readers should note that these cuvees are selected by the American importer, Eric Solomon, and are bottled earlier than those sold elsewhere in the world. Owned by the Bernard family, this is one of the largest (nearly 145 acres) and finest estates in Vacqueyras, so it is not surprising that both the 2006 and 2007 vintages performed well.Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, Charlotte, NC; tel.
