An outstanding white, the 2013 Chateauneuf du Pape Clos du Roi Blanc checks in as a blend of 50% Roussanne and 50% Grenache Blanc that was fermented and aged in 1- to 2-year-old barrels. Classy and rich, with notions of apple blossom, fruit tart and rising bread, it hits the palate with medium-bodied weight, solid purity and plenty of length on the finish. It has a good blend of freshness and richness, and should be versatile on the dinner table. I’d drink bottles over the coming 2-3 years, but wouldn’t be surprised to see it continues to drink nicely for longer.
