The spectacular 2000 Pignolo, produced from 100% Pignolo, spent 15 months in French oak and was bottled without filtration. Possessing an explosive bouquet of blackberries and licorice in addition to massive concentration, it, like its predecessor in 1999, is one of the finest Pignolos I have ever tasted. It does not reveal the extra layers of fat found in the 1999, but it is an over-sized red that merits a place among the world's most interesting wines. However, it is far less eccentric than the 2000 Real. The 2000 Pignolo should drink well for 10-15 years. Sadly, there are only 180 cases.
