The exceptional 1999 Syrah Roasted Slope (95% Syrah and 5% Viognier) is a top achievement in such a cool year. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a complex nose of honeysuckle, blackberries, and licorice. Full-bodied, rich, fleshy, well-balanced, and pure, it is a super effort for the vintage. Smoky, slightly herbaceous notes over raspberry and cherry fruit give this California wine a decidedly Rhonish cast. The mouthfeel is lean and structured, the tart flavors are strawberry and rhubarb.
