The 2004 Malleolus de Sanchomartin is also purple/black in color. It displays an impressive perfume of roasted herbs, balsamic, black fruits, licorice, and a hint of truffle. Dense, layered, powerful but totally harmonious, all the ingredients are present for future greatness. Give it 12-15 years and drink it through 2044. Malleolus de Sanchomartin is sourced from a vineyard planted in 1964 with cuttings grafted from the Valderramiro vineyard. Alcoholic fermentation is with indigenous yeasts with ML in barrel. As if chiseled from granite, this massively structured red is powerful and unyielding. But beneath the tannins are rich, expressive flavors of blackberry, licorice, tobacco, espresso and mineral, and even floral and citrus notes.
