The medium-to-dark ruby-colored 1997 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru was produced from parcels in the Corbeaux, Fonteny, and Petite Chapelle vineyards, at less than half the yields achieved in 1996. Its black cherry and Asian spice aromatics are followed by a thick, oily-textured, and medium-to-full-bodied character jam-packed with candied blackberries. This chewy, concentrated, persistent, and impeccably balanced wine should be at its peak of drinkability between 2000 and 2009.Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel(610) 486-0800.
