I'm liking this Big Tree, big time. The 2011 Pinot Noir Big Tree is all about restraint, delivering poise and delivering intensity. First up, a precise nose of dark berry fruit mixed with cranberry leaf and autumn leaf aroma, a real doppelganger for a C?te de Beaune red, more Pommard than Volnay. The palate continues that Old World theme with beautifully poised red and black fruit, sous-bois and citrus fruit. What is striking is the crescendo of flavors: everything held back at first and then somebody pulls the pin and the flavors flood across the palate on the finish. This is a top-class Pinot Noir from Sokol Blosser.
