The 2010 Mas Borras is pure Pinot Noir from a warm and challenging vintage for this capricious grape from a 10-hectare vineyard planted in 1986 in a high-altitude zone and cooler climate region of Penedes. It displays an intoxicating nose of ripe raspberries and flowers intermixed with subtle notes of smoke and sweet spices and a light to medium-bodied palate with polished, round and velvety tannins and a very pleasant aftertaste of strawberry jam with good freshness thanks to the acidity. This is a very successful Mediterranean Pinot Noir, not something easy to find. Drink now-2017.
If there is a name that needs no introduction from the Spanish wine scene, it is Torres. They produce wines from different appellations (and countries!) but Penedes is their home. Their wines are always reliable and a safe option in restaurants.
