The 2006 L’Avion, a blend of 90% Roussanne and 10% Viognier, is even better than the 2007. A full-bodied, dry white offering copious quantities of honeysuckle, and a hint of that petroleum/terroir-like character that one finds in a late harvest wine from Alsace. However, this is a dry, beautifully rich, layered, perfumed white that represents an excellent example of what can be achieved in California’s Central Coast with top-notch whites. It should drink well for 2-3 years. Stolpman Vineyards continues to produce impressive wines under the guidance of the highly regarded Santa Ynez winemaker, Sashi Moorman.Tel. (805) 688-0400
