The 2005 Sagrantino di Montefalco is a very pretty, remarkably soft-textured Sagrantino. The wine reveals gorgeous inner perfume in its vibrant dark fruit, with terrific overall balance. The only thing missing is a little more varietal definition. Still this is a highly pleasing and accessible Sagrantino to enjoy over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2013.
Scacciadiavoli is one of the older properties in Montefalco. The Pambuffetti family made its name in the food business over several decades, but these bold, racy offerings are proving that they are equally adept with wine. Consulting oenologist Stefano Chioccioli has overseen the production since 2003.
