Readers looking for a classic South Australian blend of Grenache, Mataro, and Shiraz should check out the 2002 Heinrich. A blend of 40% Shiraz, 30% Mataro (Mourvedre), and 30% Grenache, it tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol. Reminiscent of a French Bandol, this dense ruby/purple-colored effort offers up scents of new saddle leather, blueberries, black fruits, earth, and truffles. Full-bodied, with admirable fruit purity, nicely integrated acidity, and firm tannin to buttress the fruit and glycerin, it will drink well for 7-8 years.
