A gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon, Shafer's 1994 displays a dark purple color, as well as sweet, floral-scented, cassis fruit intermixed with subtle new oak and minerals. Medium to full-bodied, spicy, and exceptionally pure, with a nicely layered texture, and outstanding equilibrium and depth, this is a classic, elegant, authoritatively flavored Cabernet Sauvignon that is impeccably made. It is still youthful, but given the penchant for most Americans (this author included) to enjoy the youthfulness of wines such as this, I would opt for drinking it now and over the next 12-15+ years.
