There is a tertiary aspect on the nose of the 2009 Acon Crianza, which comes from 20- to 25-year-old Tempranillo. The palate is balanced with a supple entry: juicy black cherry and soy-tinged fruit, although it is slightly pinched toward the finish. Drink now-2015.
Located in Burgos, Abadia de Acon is one of the largest wineries in Castrillo de la Vega. It was Norberto Carrasco who installed the concrete vats back in 1953 when there were few wineries in the area compared to nowadays. His grandson Jose Antonio Carrasco presently runs the estate and oversees what I consider to be a well-priced, commendable portfolio of wines under the Acon brand.
