The 2007 Syrah Star Lane Vineyard is a gorgeous, deep wine endowed with considerable character. Blackberries, blueberries and asphalt come together nicely in this tightly wound, structured Syrah. The Star Lane is a blend of Estrella and 383 clones, with 3% Viognier, which was co-fermented. The wine was aged in French oak, of which 70% was new. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.
The Chardonnays and Pinots are the highlights among these new releases from Bonaccorsi Wine Company. I was less enamored with the 2007 Syrahs I tasted. The Pinots are vinified with indigenous yeasts and spend 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% new for all wines except the Melville, which gets 70%.
