This firm was purchased by the Champagne firm of Deutz several years ago, and it is widely believed that with Deutz's acquisition by Laurent Perrier, the quality will become more consistent. Certainly Delas Freres has made some fine cuvees in the past, particularly their estate-bottled wines from the northern Rhone, such as the Hermitage, Cote Rotie, Cornas, and Condrieu. The negociant line of wines has been mediocre at best. However, two of the red wines, the Merlot and Cote du Ventoux are well made and promising . This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.
