I loved the 2002 Riesling Auslese Bernkastler Badstube **. Its nose of red cherries, spices, and botrytis explodes from the glass and is reminiscent of a cross between a Beerenauslese and an Eiswein. On the palate it is jammy, thick, medium-bodied, and crammed with cassis, assorted red fruits, ginger, and copious spices. Its Eiswein-like finish is exceptionally long, bright, and reveals traces of molasses intermingled with fresh herbs. Projected maturity: 2009-2035.
