A new cuvee made from 100% Grenache aged in barrels is the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape l’Eperdu. Its light color is followed by notes of soy, damp earth, roasted herbs, pepper and kirsch. My least favorite of this trio, it seems somewhat light for the vintage, but is interesting and certainly pleasant.
Now that son Vincent Durieu is in full charge, Domaine Durieu has become one of the up-and-coming superstar estates of Chateauneuf du Pape. Lovers of these wines need to pay more attention as prices have remained reasonable. 2010 is another blockbuster vintage for Vincent Durieu.
