The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens comes from a parcel with a very shallow top-soil, around ten centimeters before spade hits rock. It has a suave and sophisticated bouquet with ebullient black cherries and raspberry coulis aromas, hints of violet and incense, later just a touch of desiccated orange peel. The palate is very well balanced with svelte tannin, extremely well-judged acidity, a pervading sense of harmony and refinement that belies that puissance coiled up in this Pommard. The class and character of Les Rugiens seems to flow through this wine and the precision on the finish is Grand Cru quality. This is one of the best wines from this revered Premier Cru that I tasted with respect to the 2015 vintage. Queue up to buy some.
