Bouley's best 1996 is his ruby/purple-colored, meaty Pommard Rugiens. Earthy and sweet red cherry aromas give way to a medium-to-full-bodied, broad wine packed with blackberries and dark cherries. This is an excellent, and potentially outstanding wine that has the required depth, balance, fruit, and structure. Anticipated maturity: now-2005.
Yields were high in 1996, on average 45 hectoliters/hectare or more according to Bouley. The wines are fined and filtered (though exceptions are made for the premier crus that don't "need" filtration). My impression is that these wines should be drunk early.
