The 2011 Monthelie Les Duresses comes from a 0.5-hectare parcel and sees 20% new oak for 12 months. It is distinctly herbaceous on the nose with smoky scents, even gravelly notes emerging with aeration. The palate is balanced with attractive lime and subtle tropical notes on the entry, although it runs out of steam toward the finish. Strangely, the aromatics and the palate seem to belong to a different wine and need more connect between the two. Drink now.
