Made from 100% barrel-aged Syrah, the 2005 Costieres de Nimes Cuvee Excellence reveals some of the vintage’s less pleasant characteristics, including high tannin and an austere personality. However, the front-end aromatics are very attractive. I enjoyed this cuvee, but would recommend immediate drinking as I do not think the fruit will hold up to the structure. Another reference point estate in the Costieres de Nimes, Mas des Bressades fashions fresh, lively wines meant to be consumed during their first few years of life. This is a haven for bargain hunters. All of these offerings are excellent values.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083
