Haag’s 2005 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Beerenauslese A.P. #10 offers further confirmation that the extreme level of concentration achieved here through botrytis benefitted the wine significantly. Imposingly glossy, rich, and creamy in the mouth, this nevertheless – like Haag’s auction Auslese A.P. #9 – retains fresh fruit juiciness and vivacity. Quince jelly, brown spices, and sweet flowers inform the nose, and subtle citricity and underlying walnut oil, hazelnut cream, and wet stone character enliven and complexify the creamy, quince-dominated ennobled fruit on the palate. The combination of lift and wafting personality with enormous richness and extract here typify the magic of so many of the best 2005s. Do not hesitate to put this Beerenauslese in your cellar to enjoy over 30 or more years.
