The 2004 Stonewell Shiraz, sourced from several Barossa districts, spent 18 months in predominantly French oak hogsheads. Opaque purple-colored, it delivers an enticing bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, smoked meat, and blueberry. It has a firm entry onto the palate followed by layers of sweet, savory fruit. The price keeps creeping up, but at least this is one Australian wine that consistently delivers vintage after vintage. The 2004 offers classic aromas of cassis, cinnamon and clove, with a touch of cracked pepper for good measure.
