Bilberries (wild blueberries found in the forests of Maine and in the Alps) as well as roses are revealed by the aromatics of the 2000 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru. A sweet-fruited, medium-bodied, feminine wine on the attack, it compresses to reveal a tightly wound, firm finish. Inky cherry flavors can be discerned in its structured personality. Drink it between 2004 and 2009.
The Lecheneaut brothers, Philippe and Vincent, have a distinct preference for the 2000s over the 2001s. According to them, “the acidity levels are higher in 2001 and the tannins had trouble ripening whereas in 2000 we had superb ripeness.”
