Over the years Lehmann has turned in some stunningly good, complex sweet wines with a kinship to top French Barsac/Sauternes. His 1990 Semillon-Botrytis may be his best yet. It exhibits a pineapple, toasty nose that recalls a fine, elegant Barsac. In the mouth, the crisp acidity balances the unctuous, rich, honeyed flavors that exhibit considerable botrytis. The finish is long and intense, without any alcohol showing through. I wonder whether this wine will evolve along the same lines as a great French sweet wine? Drink it over the next 4-5 years, it is an exceptional bargain. This wine typifies what Australia can do as well as anybody in the world - offer cleanly made, flavorful wines at low prices.Importer: Franklin Selections, Linthicum, MD.
