The 1988 Phelan-Segur is lighter than the 1989, but is still a textbook example of a St.-Estephe. A toasty, black currant-scented bouquet is followed by a medium-bodied wine with fine balance and length. It has less aging potential than the 1989. Anticipated maturity: Now-1997. Last tasted, 4/91.

Very good. A dark-colored, thick and chewy Bordeaux, with ample berry and currant flavors that linger on the finish. Balanced and structured to improve if cellared until at least 1996. 24,000 cases made. -
