Providing an interesting contrast, the last grapes harvested in this vintage were those of the 2003 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles. La Vougeraie’s large 2.5 hectare (6.18 acre) parcel fashioned a wine with spicy, earthy, waxy black fruit aromas. Medium to full-bodied and marked by firm tannin, it displays wax, blackberry, cassis, and black cherry flavors. Projected maturity: 2007-2012. This bursts with red and black cherry, licorice and spice aromas and flavors on an opulent profile. It has a sweet, fruit-filled center and finely meshed tannins.
