Pale to medium ruby colored, the 2009 Home Pinot Noir gives notes of warm cranberries, pomegranate juice and baking spices with underlying underbrush and soy hints. Medium-bodied, and still quite youthful, the palate is just being to open beautifully, structured by a medium level of soft tannins and crisp acid, finishing long and minerally. Delicious now, it should continue to evolve over the next 3-5 years. I tasted a few of Seresin’s single vineyard 2009 Pinot Noirs again this year, to check how they were developing now that they were entering their drinking window. Produced with estate grown fruit from Seresin’s Home Vineyard, the 2009 Home Pinot Noir was naturally fermented and aged for 15 months in French oak barriques, 33% new. Ruby-purple in color, it has a slighted muted nose of warm raspberries and cranberries with hints of black pepper, tree bark and freshly tilled soil. Medium-full bodied, the palate gives a good concentration of earthy / savory flavors with crisp acidity, and chewy tannins. The berry flavors return in the long finish. Drink it now to 2015+. Palish amber-tinged red. Strawberry, spices and dried flowers on the nose. Tighter than the Raupo Creek pinot, showing more oak spice to its cherry and strawberry fruit. But this slowly evolving wine is nicely smoky, rich and ripe. Drink it now with some aeration or hold it for a couple more years.
