The 2001 Pinot Noir Estate exhibits a dark ruby color as well as a sweet, complex, Burgundian nose of forest floor scents intermixed with cherry jam, flowers, and black fruits. The wood component plays a minor role in this complex, medium to full-bodied, pure, intriguing Pinot. It is a singular, perfumed example with loads of texture and flavor. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. What is especially impressive about all the Melville offerings is their purity and singular personalities. Young and jammy at the moment, bursting with bright, fully ripe flavors of black cherries. The fruit is wrapped in rich tannins that are ripe and sweet, and a streak of vibrant acidity cuts through everything.
