The estate’s 2005 Arnione presents a rich, full-bodied expression of jammy blueberries, blackberries, spices, minerals, wild herbs and sweet toasted oak. There is good up-front intensity, although the wine trails off a bit on the mid-palate. Because of the weaker vintage the wine is made in a somewhat restrained style, which causes the tannins to be a little more prominent than they would otherwise be. Still, it offers excellent clarity and purity in a slightly linear style. Arnione is Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot aged in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022.
Once again this year I was very impressed with the wines I tasted from Campo alla Sughera.
