The 2005 Ramione is a blend of Merlot and Nero d’Avola that spent 12 months in French oak barrels. An attractive mid-weight red, the wine showcases the aromatics of Nero d’Avola along with the plumpness of Merlot, a combination that works nicely here. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011. Baglio di Pianetto is the Sicilian property of the Marzotto family, who are best known for their highly successful lifestyle brands. The vineyards are located in Pachino, in the province of Siracusa, and Santa Cristina Gela, near Palermo.
