Tenuta La Fuga’s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Le Due Sorelle reveals a darker, wilder side of Sangiovese in its expression of dark cherries, smoke, earthiness, leather and coffee beans, with a somewhat compact personality lacking generosity. It offers good length but the tannins close down hard on the finish. I don’t see additional bottle age making a significant difference in this wine’s balance. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2016?
