The 2008 Rosso di Montepulciano is flat-out delicious. This shows more density and depth than the Chianti, with an authoritative, layered core of fruit that caresses the palate from start to finish. The Rosso is 85% Sangiovese plus a dash of Canaiolo and Merlot. It was aged exclusively in steel. This joyous, unoaked red is a steal for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016.
These new releases from Salcheto span several vintages, but they all have one thing in common: they are absolutely terrific. Readers who haven’t yet discovered Salcheto are missing out on some of the most delicious wines being made in Tuscany today.
