The 2013 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru les Gravains has a ripe, fresh prune and black cherry-scented bouquet that is very precocious for the vintage, although it does not have the focus of the les Guettes ’13. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm, almost rigid tannins, lending this good backbone and although there is not huge length in the mouth, there is a depth of fruit toward the finish, an underlying mineralité that imparts tension and promise for better things once in bottle.
