The top-of-the-line 2008 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Adrano is the most exuberant of these new releases from Villa Medoro. Here, too, there is quite a bit of richness and sweetness in the dark fruit, yet I find the style a bit overdone. The French oak is also a bit more noticeable than in some other previous years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. This lineup from Villa Medoro is full of gorgeous, reasonably priced wines. The estate excels with both Trebbiano and Montepulciano, as these notes show. A concentrated, toasty red, with a frame of mesquite and spice notes surrounding the dark plum sauce and fig paste fruit character. There's serious grip, as notes of spice and toast return on the finish.
