The 2013 Vernaccia di San Gimignano Carato shows creamy structure with caramelized notes brushed with saffron. This is absolutely one of my favorite expressions of this Tuscan white grape. The wine is fermented in small French barrels, but it goes into cement vats after that where it integrates and finds balance. The wine wraps over the palate with thick waves of orchard fruit, creamy apricot, lemon mousse and jasmine oil. Dusty mineral tones complete this very pretty picture. Only 3,300 bottles were produced.
