The 2001 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca and 30% Tinta Roriz, aged in used Portuguese wooden vats. It comes in at 89. 4 grams per liter of residual sugar. It was bottled in July 2007. Fresh, bright and lively, this is a charmer that seems rather vivacious for its age, dribbling juicy, delicious fruit into the palate and showing impeccable balance along the way. It shows reasonable concentration as well and it also manages to flesh out surprisingly well in the glass by Day 2. It is shockingly young for its age.The tannins are refined, but they show up often enough to lend this some pop and vibrancy. It has a bit of bite. It is not anywhere near as lush as its predecessor in Noval's vertical this issue, the 2000, in theory a bigger vintage, but it is more youthful, better focused and livelier. As we get to Day 3, it is also just the better wine, not always obvious but impressive in its own way. It is very pretty and a prime-time wine that seems quite completely enticing, dancing on the palate with light feet.
