From the new Zonin estate in the Salento, the 2012 Primitivo di Manduria Altemura adopts a simple, fruit-forward approach with good density and intensity of aromas. The bouquet delivers wild berry, red rose, lavender soap, church incense and Indian spice. The wine is made in steel vats and later transferred to oak casks for up to 18 months of aging. Like many wines in the Zonin portfolio, Altemura is designed for easy, near-term drinking. Having seen the important investments made by the Zonin family in Puglia, I look forward to watching Masseria Altemura's future growth.
