The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Les Didiers Cuvee Fagon is quite harmonious in the vintage. Black cherries, plums, red berries, mint, licorice and spices are all woven together beautifully in this sensual, deep Nuits. The Ligniers buy the Cuvee Favon in barrel from the Hospice de Nuits. The wine spends six months in new barrels and is then moved to neutral oak. I found the new oak much less intrusive in the 2010 than it was in the 2009. This is another striking wine with a brilliant future. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030.
Laurent Lignier began harvesting on September 30 and finished on October 5. Yields were down approximately 30-35% across the board because of the cold summer. Lignier reported that the fruit required minimal sorting but the bunches were very small. The 2010s had not been racked at the time of my tastings. Lignier planned to bottle in the spring of 2012 with no fining or filtration.
