The most elegant of Ridge's three rich, full-bodied 1990 Zinfandels is the 1990 Paso Robles (made from 95% Zinfandel and 5% Carignane). Fat and sumptuous with gobs of berry fruit, excellent color, it is a forward, mouthfilling, amply-endowed wine bursting with glycerin and ripe fruit. This hedonistic Zinfandel should make super drinking over the next 5-7 years. It should not come as a surprise that Ridge has again produced three terrific new Zinfandels. If you are not convinced that this is the most under-rated varietal made in California, try one of these offerings.
