The 2010 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is thrilling—and one of the finest young reds I've tasted from Domaine d'Auvenay. The wine soars from the glass with a captivating bouquet of dark wild berries, incense, sweet spices and violets, mingling with notes of dark chocolate and espresso roast. On the palate, it's full-bodied, multidimensional and searingly concentrated, with its fine-grained, chalky tannins concealed in an ample core of fruit, both more brooding and more fleshy than the d'Auvenay Bonnes-Mares. The finish is long and intense. While it's already a striking experience, forget it for another 6 or 7 years to experience all its plenitude.
