The blockbuster 1999 Gisele is an exotic, over-the-top style of Merlot that is reminiscent of the provocative Pomerols produced by Le Pin and Clinet (especially those from the late eighties). The opaque purple-colored, full-bodied, multi-layered, unctuously-textured, fabulous Gisele boasts a fascinating nose of espresso, blackberries, mocha, smoke, and minerals. New oak is noticeable, but this component will ultimately be absorbed by the luxurious wealth of fruit and glycerin. This wine offers profound evidence of my belief that the only place in the world other than Bordeaux where phenomenal Merlot can consistently be grown is Tuscany. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.
