The 2006 Sommelongue is a mostly Grenache cuvee, and is fruity, medium ruby-colored, with notes of strawberry and cherry in a straightforward style. Always one of the standard bearers for Chateauneuf du Pape, Andre Brunel has long been a model of meticulous viticulture and vinification. Aromas of dried cherries and leather are backed up by more of the same on the palate. This medium- to full-bodied blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah is reasonably supple and open, and should probably be consumed over the next 2–3 years.——J.C.(12/15/2009)—— 87
