Colpetrone’s 2006 Sagrantino di Montefalco flows from the glass with wild blueberries, Asian spices, juniper berries, smoke and leather, all of which come together in a full-throttle, dense wine of notable pedigree. The sheer ripeness and concentration of the fruit balances the firm Sagrantino tannins through to the intense finish. The Sagrantino spent 18 months in 5-hectoliter French oak casks. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021.
This is a superb set of new wines from Colpetrone and oenologist Lorenzo Landi. The wines are made in a bold, forward style with generous fruit and great textural richness.
