1991 was a dreadful vintage in the southern Rhone, so one can imagine what a severe selection, not to mention the winemaking talent it must have taken to fashion such an impressive wine. Produced from yields of only 18 hectoliters per hectare, this 1991 Gigondas displays a profound deep black/ruby color, and a huge, chocolatey, black-cherry, and herb nose that offers up sweet aromas of ripe, undiluted fruit. Full-bodied, with layers of fruit and richness, this sumptuously ripe wine should drink well for 7-8 years. This is an amazing achievement given the vintage!
