The 2012 Chardonnay Original Vines Reserve is a barrel selection, not necessarily the best according to Jason Lett, but the most complete dynamic range. This vintage it is at 13.5% alcohol compared to 12.5% for the Estate Chardonnay. It has a very intense bouquet, very well defined with dried honey, white peach, limestone and flinty aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity that cuts a swath through the lightly honeyed fruit, complemented by walnut and smoky notes, fanning out wonderfully on the finish. This is an outstanding Chardonnay, a world-class wine.
