Although the 2009 Barolo Riserva is drinking well now, it does offer a mature taste profile that suggests you're be better off not waiting too long before popping the cork. It presents classic characteristics of aged Nebbiolo with dried fruit, tar, honey and roasted chestnut. Yet this is a relatively young wine that is further along its aging trajectory than it should be. The finish is silky but also very dry.

Beautifully balanced, this red evokes cherry, strawberry, licorice, tobacco and mineral flavors. Sweet and salty, with a vibrant finish and a fine yet firm grip on the protracted finish.
