The 1990 Barbaresco has an element of over-ripeness, but it is fabulously rich, full-bodied, and intense. The leathery, herb, and cherry-scented nose is followed by bold, tannic, powerful flavors. Ideally it needs 2-3 years of cellaring; it will keep for 15-20 years. This wine is unequivocally from the traditional school of Piedmontese winemaking. Its rustic side, evidenced by huge quantities of ferocious tannin, is accompanied by deep, full-bodied, concentrated wine with layers of pure, ripe fruit. Impressive!
