This is the top-shelf wine from Torre dei Beati. The 2015 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Mazzamarello is named after a mythic little fairy that is part of Abruzzo folklore. The Montepulciano grape never lacks texture to begin with, but this organically grown expression is particularly supple and smooth, with lots of black fruit, spice and savory tobacco. The wine undergoes a long aging period that extends over 20 months, with close attention paid to lees contact and stirring of the lees (or batonnage), thus building up the wine's generous fiber and texture. Celebrate it with a well-marbled steak. Some 6,000 bottles were made.
