"In terms of the growing season, minus the smoke, 2012 reminded me most of 2017," says winemaker Ben Casteel. "In 2012, coming on the heels of 2011, we were still trying to figure out what the definition of ripe grapes to make good wines was. It misses a little of 2017's delicacy, but I do find myself circling back to this vintage. The Flat Block for me is like the metronome of the property, the place I can pull the vintage reference thread through the easiest." Medium ruby, the 2012 Pinot Noir Estate Flat Block is still youthful, with raspberry and strawberry jam, blueberries and boysenberries accented by pipe tobacco, dried flowers, charcuterie, peppercorn and mushroom. The medium-bodied palate is intense, nuanced and perfumed with a gentle frame and good freshness, finishing layered. This is drinking beautifully right now and still has plenty of life ahead.
